1) Horror is not always about the jump scares or the gore.The best form of horror is when the visuals,music,atmosphere,performances and the sounds of a movie amalgamates beautifully to leave you unnerved and looking over your shoulder as you cannot take in the tension anymore.Hereditary accomplishes this seamlessly.
2) At the base of the story is a family drama which is unsettling in itself, but it slowly shifts to something unexpected for it’s payoff and it never feels forceful or convenient. First time director Ari Aster does a masterful job of building up the tension and building some imagery which will be with you for days after you have finished watching it.
