Unending Spiral of Melancholy
- Oslo August 31st is an unforgettable expereince of looking at the world around, for one day, from the perspective of an individual stuck in himself. Oslo 31 August follows Anders, a recovering drug addict who is given a day’s leave from his rehab center to apply for a job and try to reconnect with his old friends and family around the city of Oslo, where he grew up.
- We feel his deepest vulnerabilities and fears. So much that we can’t be any sort of a judge except to stare into the void that he feels everywhere and in himself.
- I encountered this film like a dream. A dream or a song of inexpressible grief. With the idea of drug addiction on the surface, it actually explores so much with beautiful restraint, delicacy and an elusive yet empathetic gaze.
